This article isn't going to have many photos. Sure, xoVain is all about "no beauty secrets," which is why I'm candidly telling you that I currently have a ferocious breakout on my shoulders. But I'm most definitely NOT taking and posting pictures of it.
Sorry, and you're welcome.
It all started about a month ago. I noticed a couple zits on my back, and I chalked it up to needing to wash the bra I wear most often. But then, it spread with a vengeance all over my shoulders, up to where they meet my neck around the sides and back.
I have shoulderne. Shacne? Shouldacne?
I've never had a breakout like this in this particular area. I'm lucky that I almost never go sleeveless. If this breakout was all over my chest, I'd have nothing to wear; most of my clothing is a décolletage-friendly, and some of the wider necklines show the "activity" I've got going on if I don't wear my hair down.
Maybe wearing my hair down a lot is part of the problem? I can't think of anything else that touches my shoulders as consistently as my hair, so I'm going to switch up some products to see if that makes a difference.
I also picked up (yes, bought, with my very own cashpapers) Neutrogena Rapid Clear Treatment Pads. With 60 pads packing 2% salicylic acid, it definitely seems like the most treatment--in potency and quantity--for the money.
Twice a day, I wipe the textured side of the little round pads on both shoulders--one wipe per shoulder. It actually smells and feels pretty nice!
I immediately started noticing a difference in the frequency of new blemishes, and some of the bigger ones' … uh… life cycle came to a quicker end? (I honestly just don't want people picturing big ol' whiteheads on my shoulders. I would like to have sex again at some point.)
In the shower, I'm using Alba Botanica Natural AcneDote Face & Body Scrub, which also contains 2% salicylic acid. The scrub's dark brown color is a little jarring, but not as much as… you know… zits covering my shoulders.
Amazingly, even though I'm using two products with 2% salicylic acid, my shoulders haven't gotten over-dry. I would welcome that compared to the bumpy, tender redness I've got going on right now.
I currently have one--ONE--zit on my face, and it's a wuss, so I'm not quite sure what's making my shoulders break out with a vengeance while the rest of my zit potential isn't being met. Phew? I guess?
I'll keep you updated on the zittiness of my shoulders, but in the meantime, let me know if you've ever dealt with shoulder acne. I'm thinking I may be the only person with shoulder acne ever--wouldn't there be a popular portmanteau like bacne or neckne if it was more common? I AM SUCH A RARE, BLEMISHED FLOWER.
