As much as I love the idea of scrubbing my lips down with some fancy store-bought goop, I can't justify spending upwards of $22 on a product I really don't need. Sure, I spend ridiculous amounts of money on lipstick, but something about these tiny lip scrub pots just seems unnecessarily expensive to me.
I mean, I can get the exact same results using ordinary things/ingredients I have sitting around my house at this very moment, such as...
1. An Old Toothbrush
All I do for this one is wet my lips with some water and scrub in circular motions. I apply some Malin + Goetz lip balm immediately afterward because it is the greatest thing ever. Also, your lips are going to need some pampering after all that scrubbing.
2. A Disposable Mascara Wand
You probably already have a bunch of these laying around, so why not designate one for lip exfoliation? Apply some natural oil to the top half of the brush and gently scrub your lips with it. Swipe on a soothing balm immediately afterward as this is much harsher than other methods!
3. Sugar And Honey (Or Coconut Oil)
It takes about 10 seconds to make this sugar scrub. Drizzle some honey (or any food grade oil) into a bowl and pour in some sugar to create an incredibly simple DIY lip scrub. Drop in some essential oil if you so desire.
4. Coffee Grinds
Coffee: it's not just good in your body scrub, try it on your lips! Coffee grinds can be substituted for sugar in most any lip scrub recipe. If you want to get fancy, mix in some honey, coconut oil, or jojoba oil.
5. A Washcloth
This is the ULTIMATE lazy person lip scrub. The wash cloth is a bathroom staple--and it's cheap! I promise you it’s a good investment. I bought a bunch of them and I keep them neatly stacked under my sink. Wet your lips with some water or oil and scrub!
- Do you buy fancy lip scrubs or do you DIY?
- Do you even scrub your lips at all, or are you just #blessed with naturally moisturized, flake-free lips?
- Are you loyal to one brand/type of washcloth?
