Recently, I was feeling really sad, so I hopped in my Nissan and took a long drive through the mountains while listening to America's classic hit, "Sister Golden Hair" on repeat. It was literally impossible to feel bummed at all afterwards! I highly recommend it.
Here's something else I recommend you do soon: start incorporating gold, both as as a color and a mentality, into your skincare and lifestyle.
Gold is my favorite color. It's a symbol of strength, luxury, and most of all, winning. In this, The Year of Our Lord Poe Dameron 2016, you deserve to win.
Here are some of my favorite products and tools to help you start living your life by the gold standard, too.
When the lovely folks over at JeNu asked me if I'd be interested in trying their new and improved JeNu Ultrasonic Infuser, I was immediately curious. The word "ultrasonic" makes it sound smart, important, and vaguely dangerous, which is how I prefer my skincare tools and my men.
Then, the JeNu posse said they could send me their limited edition GOLD infuser wand, and I immediately started making grabby hands at my inbox like the totally normal, well-adjusted adult that I am.
The JeNu wand claims to utilize the power and science of ultrasound energy in order to make your skin better absorb the products you're already using. By adding this tool to your routine, you can make your existing serums, lotions, and potions work better and faster.
Now, look. I have an English degree and I don't know much about ultrasound, so I reached out to my super-smart boyfriend (Google) for a quick science lesson. Ultrasound refers to sound waves, with frequencies so high the human ear cannot detect them. I've actually learned a bit about sound (or sonic) energy in my life because my dad is an audiologist.
I grew up playing with tuning forks and was always fascinated by the way vibrations come together to create all the sounds we hear throughout our lives. Most people are familiar with the term ultrasound in reference to the imaging process where we can look at babies while they're still chillin' in the womb. Science is great. I am all aboard for science.
In the beauty realm, ultrasound technology has been harnessed whole-heartedly by skincare experts. Everyone's favorite cleansing tool, the Clarisonic, is powered by sonic technology and has been scrubbing our faces extra-clean for over 10 years now.
JeNu's Ultrasound Infuser Wand is another innovation in ultrasonic technology, promising to keep us beautiful forever. I, for one, am in total favor of the imminent robotic takeover. My beauty goal this year is to be as hot as the robot babe from Ex Machina, so...
As the JeNu infuser glides across your skin, it vibrates and massages your skin cells. This increases oxygen, plumps skin, and revitalizes your face/life. Because it's ~ultrasonic~ though, you can't feel it vibrating and it doesn't feel warm to the touch.
The JeNu wand is the last step in my beauty routine, as it works to seal in and activate all the other products I've just used.
Because true style is about mixing high and low, I like using my sophisticated new beauty device with some fantastic drugstore products. Lately, I'm obsessed with L'Oréal's Age Perfect line.
I picked up a sample of L'Oréal Age Perfect Cell Renewal Golden Serum a few weeks ago at Target and was immediately hooked. First of all, GOLDEN. Second of all, it feels amazing on your skin and leaves you really glowing. I needed the entire line right away.
After removing my makeup and cleansing my face, I go to work with the L'Oreal lineup. First up, I go in with the Age Perfect Cell Renewal Facial Oil.
This oil is lightweight but leaves my skin super-moisturized and dewy. A blend of eight essential oils help smooth fine lines and fight signs of aging, which I'm already concerned about because I neglected sunscreen as a teenager and because all my ex-boyfriends are dating 22-year-olds.
Then I go in with the golden serum I already mentioned. This serum feels luxurious, and will plump and firm your skin, leaving you with a lovely, smooth finish. The only caveat I'll mention is that this stuff definitely has a slight floral fragrance; I don't mind it, but I know it's a concern for some. It's not strong enough to irritate my sensitive, princess skin.
If my skin is still feeling dry, which happens sometimes because winter, I'll add a layer of Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition Cream to add some much-needed life to my skin. It's perfect for layering under BB creams or foundation.
After using all those, I dab a pearl-sized bit of JeNu Microsphere Conducting Gel to the head of the JeNu Wand. This proprietary gel helps to conduct the ultrasound energy so it can get all up in your skin. I was worried about the gel itself bothering my skin, but I haven't had any issues.
Then I use the wand, in small little circles, all over my face and neck. The JeNu wand will only stay on for a minute, so it doesn't take very long. You can use it twice, if you want, going over any areas you want to target more. For me, this is around my eyes and mouth where lines are already developing. (Thanks, stupid expressive baby face.)
When I've gone through my entire routine both with and without the JeNu wand, I can definitely feel a difference in the way my products are being absorbed into my skin. While this wand is for anti-aging and not fighting acne, I've definitely noticed an improvement in my scarring, and the increased moisturization (which is definitely a word) makes a world of a difference in the way my skin reacts to everything.
For one last touch of gold luxury, on days when my skin still feels dry or dull, I use one of Dermal's Gold Collagen Essence Masks. Sheet masks are the secret to life, and these Korean sheet masks are fantastic.
Packed with nano-colloidal gold, collagen, and vitamin E, this essence mask packs a punch of moisture. The mask is big enough to cover your whole face. You can even cover your eyes if you want! I didn't, because I can't take my eyes off Truvy for even one minute. (Not because she's cute, but because she keeps breaking stuff in my house.)
I still have some blemishes, and my skin is far from perfect, but I haven't had any issues with dry or dull skin since I started this skin regimen a few months ago. Here's my face with zero makeup after using this entire routine and wearing a sheet mask for 20 minutes while watching the DVD special features from A Most Violent Year.
I know this might all seem like a lot, but it's a routine that's made an incredible difference and made me feel like a real human again. Well, that and "Sister Golden Hair." Happy 2016! New year, same me, slightly better skin.
