I don’t bake. Like, at all. One time I asked my roommate how long I baked rice crispy squares and she just stared at me sadly and left the kitchen.

However, even though I never bake, I always have a healthy supply of baking soda in my kitchen.

Why? Well, first of all it stops my fridge from smelling grody, but mainly because it keeps my skin pretty! (Odor-free fridge, nice skin... I don’t understand why I’m single!)

I am not very good to my skin. After years of acne throughout my youth, I can’t stop slathering my face in foundation every morning (even though it is not caked on and orange anymore). Sometimes I work for 16 hours and just slather more foundation and bronzer on midway through the day to keep looking fresh, and other times I stay out too late (aka drink too much) and fall asleep with a full face of makeup on. My pores should hate me!

So, once a week, I make sure my face gets a solid cleaning and exfoliating. And it only costs about 15 cents a mask!

This method came out of a PMS-fueled breakout while I was suffering from lethargy and didn’t want to leave my apartment to find a remedy. So over to Google I went!

“My skin is sad what can I use at home to make it not sad” I typed.

Web page after web page that popped up said simply baking soda and water. Some even suggested adding a bit of honey, but I’m not a rocket scientist--two ingredients are enough for me.

LET'S DO THIS!

First, I mix about a tablespoon-and-a-half of baking soda with a tablespoon of water. It’s not a precise science (another example of why I am not good at baking). Mix it up until it’s a thick, milky consistency.

Cleanse your face with hot (but not too hot) water, and then throw on your baking soda concoction.

I have oily skin, so I leave mine on for 10 minutes. If you have sensitive or dry skin, I would only leave it on for only a couple minutes or until the mask begins to dry slightly. If you have really sensitive skin, I would use it more as a spot treatment for problem areas and keep it away from the sensitive areas of your face.

As the baking soda mask dries it will lift impurities away from your face. When your time is up, gently wipe it off with warm water and a wash cloth, which will exfoliate your skin.

After you have dried your face, put on some moisturizer--your skin will be a little thirsty. After I do that, my face feels as smooth as a baby’s bottom, which is an awfully weird expression if you think about it.

I have been doing this for about six months, once a week, and other than the occasional breakout, my skin has been glorious! I partially attribute that to guzzling gallons of water on the daily…maybe an over exaggeration. But for real, drink lots of water and use this mask once a week and you’re golden!

It doesn’t matter what type of baking soda you use. No-name or Arm & Hammer--it seems all baking soda is created equal. I only spent 50 cents more on the brand-name stuff to impress you guys.
