I love being outside when I can, but when it’s hot and sticky out, I can almost always be found in my apartment complex's swimming pool or a friend’s pool, cooling off and relaxing to get relief from the summer heat and humidity. But since I spend so much time in the sun (not without sunscreen, of course) and in the pool, my skin can get really dried out, which, sadly, makes it produce oil at maximum levels.
Last year, I discovered that following my days in the sun with a nice hydrating mask really helped to keep my skin in check and less oily. Here are the three masks that I’m reaching for this season.
This Tony Moly sheet mask is perfect for when I’ve gotten a little too much sun. I’m diligent about applying and reapplying sunscreen (especially to my face) when I’m outside, but sometimes I spend a little too much time outdoors and end up with a little redness on my cheeks.
When this happens, I like to use a mask with soothing aloe to calm things down and provide my skin with some relief. I like a sheet mask for this purpose, too, because it just feels cooling, especially since I can pop it in the fridge before I head to the pool.
This mask is water-based but also contains ingredients that are ideal for hydrating skin (glycerin, grape seed oil, hyaluronic acid). Grape seed oil also has antioxidant properties, so there are some added protective benefits for your skin there, too.
This mask is my favorite in the bunch because it makes my skin feel incredibly smooth after I use it. Honey is the primary ingredient (it makes up 38.7% of the mask’s composition) so the fact that it's hydrating shouldn’t be a surprise. There are a variety of other hydrating ingredients including macadamia seed oil, sunflower seed oil, and jojoba seed oil (among others) as well as snail mucin and bee venom, and I can attest that this combination makes my skin feel very smooth and bouncy (more so than it normally does). Plus it’s fun to smear the mask all over my face with the included spatula.
