Oh, sorry — look at me getting political again even though a commenter called me an ugly Nazi in last week's beauty news comments for having the audacity to mention on a feminist beauty website how Donald Trump made rude remarks about a woman's skin. Silly me. I guess I'll just stick to talking about only the most rudimentary and palatable beauty information as if it exists in a vacuum and as though me being a beauty editor and you being beauty enthusiasts relegates us to a strict set of topics about which it is appropriate to talk.

If you're not yet familiar with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, run to the nearest bookstore and pick up one of her novels (or all them), or check out any of her many pieces of writing online. One of the most increasingly visible and celebrated intellectual voices of our time, Adichie's "feminist" label may make it seem like she wouldn't be an obvious choice to represent a mainstream cosmetics brand. But No7 and Adichie say that's exactly the point of their new partnership.
Some may complain that it's another example of the commodification of feminism, but I beg to differ. This isn't another case of dumbed-down "girl power!" ad copy read by a celebrity who has otherwise shown no interest in feminist issues. It's a trusted voice talking about an internal conflict a lot of progressive women face: will they be taken less seriously if they enjoy cosmetics?
"I love makeup and its wonderful possibilities for temporary transformation. And I also love my face after I wash it all off,” Adichie said in a statement. “There is something exquisitely enjoyable about seeing yourself with a self-made new look. And for me that look is deeply personal. It isn’t about what is in fashion or what the rules are supposed to be. It’s about what I like. What makes me want to smile when I look in the mirror. What makes me feel slightly better on a dull day. What makes me comfortable.”
She went on to tell Vogue UK, "I think much of beauty advertising relies on a false premise — that women need to be treated in an infantile way, given a ‘fantasy’ to aspire to. Real women are already inspired by other real women, so perhaps beauty advertising needs to get on board.”

So, we've established that feminists can unashamedly embrace beauty. And you probably already know that many feminists are also sex-positive. So, who can we look to for a trifecta of feminism, sexuality and beauty?

Please tell your male friends who don't use body wash as shampoo that there are others out there like him. And now there's a place just for them.
Very Good Light is a men's beauty website started and run by Mashable writer David Yi, and it doesn't normalize men's interest in beauty because dammit, that's already normal! There's nothing weird about a dude wanting to use concealer! ANYWAY, it does offer a focused platform for just grooming and appearance topics — the articles so far have titles like "You're Parting Your Hair All Wrong" and "Why I'm Not Afraid to Be Called Feminine" — instead of burying few and far between articles like that in publications that cover a wider range of manly man things.
All I have to say is, YOU CAN'T HAVE TYNAN.
