I guess you could say I'm the resident mermaid around here, so I sang my beauty writer siren song and lured one of these special boxes to my doorstep.
Officially called the Modern Mermaid, this deluxe Birchbox is filled with everything a real or wannabe mermaid could ask for: A scaly Stephanie Johnson purse mirror, Captain Blankenship's Mermaid Mane Hairspray, and metallic nail polishes by Ruffian, among other goodies to channel your "inner sea goddess." Of course, it is only available for a limited time, so you better start flippin' your fins to Birchbox.com before you miss out! Here's what's in the box:
Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Genius Waterproof Topcoat
This treatment in a tube is like a nail topcoat for your lashes; it makes any mascara waterproof! I haven’t had the chance to try this out while actually swimming yet (it’s not quite warm enough to break out the fins), but my shower testing has shown promising results!
Captain Blankenship Mermaid Mane Sea Salt Spray
I’ve actually loved this product for a while, so I was super happy to find it in my Birchbox. A simple, all-natural sea salt spray that works wonders and smells like roses, I highly recommend it to anyone who craves beach hair.
COOLA Liplux SPF 30 Original Formula
I’m pretty picky when it comes to lip balm, but I actually really like this one, and I love that it has SPF 30. Cruelty-free and 70 percent organic, the formula is really waxy, which means it has great staying power, and the antioxidant ingredients make it smell like berry.
Stephanie Johnson Mermaid Mirror
It’s a tiny mirror and it has magical scales. Need I say more?
RUFFIAN Endless Summer Collection
A gorgeous metallic set, these polishes almost look marbled in the bottles. They’re the thickest polishes I’ve ever used, which means they give great coverage with only one coat. Of the three colors, Blue Lagoon is by far the most mermaid, but the sandy Sahara and metallic pink Endless Love are super pretty, too!
Vasanti Kajal Extreme Intense Eye Pencil In Electric Navy
Extremely pigmented and smooth, this eyeliner is perfect for adding a bit of ocean blue to your everyday makeup routine. Plus, the pen comes with a smudger and built-in sharpener, which is pretty much the most convenient packaging I’ve ever seen.
Atelier Cologne Cédrat Enivrant Travel Spray
This scent is supposed to smell like summer, but I really think it just smells like a very strong mojito! Notes of mint, juniper, and cedar read fresh, citrusy, and surprisingly alcoholic. I'd wear this for a lazy day of sunbathing and cocktailing on a luxurious pool deck.
So, what do you think? Worth the $44? Have you tried any of these items?
