We're going to talk about red-carpet glamour even though we're thinking about David Bowie.

Today is weird.

The last thing I talked about with anyone last night was Golden Globes beauty looks; I asked xoVainers to weigh in on their favorites so I could share that with you today. This morning, I woke up to a text from Colleen that David Bowie had died, and now I don't want to write about anything but his best beauty looks. Alle already did that, though, and this incredibly sad news doesn't cancel out the fact that the Golden Globes did, in fact, happen and that there was, in fact, beauty on which we have opinions.

So it is with some somberness that I present to you our favorite beauty looks of the 2016 Golden Globes.

Rooney Mara got the most votes from xoVainers, myself included. In addition to romantic makeup like a deep plum lip, fluffy lashes and super-highlighted cheekbones, what really stole the show was her phenomenal braid by stylist Adir Abergel. The crown is incredibly sleek, with a razor-sharp mid-head part, but the high-set braid itself is chunky and borderline messy.

Taraji P. Henson

A bunch of us were swooning over Taraji's bedhead bob.

"The hair is really working for me," Tamara says. "And her makeup is low-key but she's still fire."

And not only is her makeup low-key, it's low-priced. The whole look was done with L'Oreal products, like True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation and Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss in Bare Attraction.

Taylor Schilling

Several of us didn't recognize Taylor Schilling, but that didn't stop Rachel from declaring it her head-to-toe favorite look of the night.

"In my dreams, this is how I casually roll up to the bar for drinks on a Friday night. I stay for one martini, and I leave without an excuse," Rachel muses. "It's the swept-back messy hair, the 'I did this in the Uber' bronzer. The whole look is very 'I was very busy before this. Busy doing what? Haha, what should we get to drink?'"

In reality, Taylor's glow is due to Burt’s Bees BB Cream in the shade Medium, which was applied by makeup artist Hung Vanngo, presumably not in a moving vehicle.

Viola Davis

Does this woman ever stop glowing? It's like her skin naturally shimmers.

"I always think Viola Davis looks great (partially because I think she kinda looks like my mom), but I thought her makeup tonight was really interesting, too," Victoria says. "The smoky eye with the subtle dark blue halo around it is super-unexpected, and the fuchsia lip is fun but still super-classy."

Katy Perry

On Twitter, I described Katy Perry's look as "Barbarella Maid-of-Honor," and I stand by that gigantic compliment. I also fully support her use of a Bump-It (she was happy to admit that on the red carpet) to get that awesome volume.

"Instead of the high-texture rockstar/beach-ombre that's starting to bore me, she's got this smooth, monochromatic bouffant," Trista says. "I'm digging it."

Laverne Cox

I let out an audible "Ooh!" when I first spotted Laverne Cox. I love that loose, low, side-swept bun and tendrils that don't make tendrils feel like a bad, dated word.

"Laverne Cox's purple lipstick with those green earrings is especially great," Allison says.

Eva Green

I think Sable describes Eva Green's look best: "Unwashed '90s office-appropriate goth glamour."

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde's look got praise from both Tamara and Maura

"I pick Olivia Wilde because she paired the burgundy dress with a burgundy eye instead of a burgundy lip, and I thought that was really original (and it made her eyes POP)," Maura says. That eye look came from the Revlon ColorStay 16 Hour Eyeshadow Quad in Decadent.

While I agree that her makeup is gorgeous, her hair gave me shpilkes in my genechtagazoink. When my hair was longer and I wore it in a ponytail to bed, this is how I'd wake up — with all but the longest layer having fallen out of the elastic. I just wanted to yoink it out!

Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten Dunst looked like a Greek goddess and a velvet painting had a baby, and we were all left in awe. Especially Kat.

"Whatever Kirsten Dunst did to her boobs I would like to do to my face. They looked like porcelain," she said. "They're my favourite beauty look of the night. She's been putting eye cream on them or something."

Actually, it turns out she's wearing Simple Skincare Replenishing Rich Moisturizer on both her face and body. So... close?

Lady Gaga

In addition to flawlessly covering her tattoos for the night, I was especially enamored with Gaga's Marilyn-esque hairstyle, created by stylist Frederic Aspiras with KMS products.

HONORABLE MENTION: Jennifer Lopez, Melissa McCarthy, Lily James, Kate Hudson, Amy Adams, Oscar Isaac, Cher 32 years ago.
