I'm not sure how old most girls are when they start getting into nail polish because I picked my nails to an unpaintable length for most of my childhood... and adolescence and young adulthood. We're talking short--painfully. And I think it's because of this that I don't consider a manicure as elemental to my beauty routine as skincare, makeup and haircare.
Case in point: Over the last two months, I wore nail polish for a total of one day. I quickly painted my nails for my sister's wedding reception last month, and then I peeled it off during my train ride back to NYC the next day. (Sorry about the scraps, Amtrak.)
I'd fallen back into old habits recently, picking and peeling--though not down to the quick like I used to. And as much as I like the look of nail polish, I don't want to draw attention to how short my nails are by slapping color on them. So right now, my nails look like this:
A former boss of mine was disgusted by the idea of unpainted toenails, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few people out there who find this sight disturbing. (What's the opposite of a fetish? A phobia?)
So, I'm curious if I'm the only one who just sorta shrugs off manicures. Quick Question: Do you feel naked without nail polish?
