When I’m bored with my nails or I don’t feel like spending any time on them, I use fake ones. This is not as crazy as it sounds. There are some pretty compelling reasons today to reconsider fake nails.
1. Gnarly nail glue isn't your only adhesive option.
While false nails won’t necessarily damage your real nail, nail glue is pretty sketchy stuff, typically made with worrisome ingredients like cyanoacrylates. Luckily, there’s an alternative. Presenting: Elegant Touch Super Adhesive Tabs.
These stickers come with the Elegant Touch Polished false nails, but you can also buy them separately. A pack of these tabs comes with 24 stickers, so you can use them twice. All you have to do is figure out which size is right for you, apply the sticker to the nail, and trim to size.
When you’re ready, peel off the plastic and stick on the fake nail, making sure to press down, as the tabs are pressure activated. The best thing about these stickers is that they make your falsies reusable, because, unlike glue, they don't leave a trace. Another great option are the press-on nails that come with a sticker. They take no time and are totally harmless.
2. Fake nails come in every color, shape, and size.
Square-tipped French manicure falsies no longer dominate drugstore aisles. Not only are brands producing short, medium, and long styles, fake nails also come in rounded, square, oval, and pointed tips. Color choices, too, pose a plethora of options, including nail art, like these aptly named Kitty Kitsch nails by Elegant Touch and House of Holland.
There are also more natural-looking options, like these press-ons, also by Elegant Touch.
3. They’re more realistic than ever.
When I was a kid, I could spot falsies from a mile off. But in 2015, fake nails are softer (though just as durable) and often thin out towards the cuticle, making them kinder to nails and more natural-looking.
Let's give fake nails some credit--they’ve come a long way, right?
- Do you wear fake nails?
- Do you remember a time when square-tipped french-manicured press-ons were the only option?
- What do you think of my Kitty Kitsch nails? Be honest, I can take it.
