We're at the hot and sticky height of summer, and all of the plants and flowers have reached their lush, gorgeous peak.
My usual makeup look is reminiscent of old Hollywood sirens, heavy in color and application. But coats and coats of lipstick and eye shadow feel like too much on these steamy August days.
So I decided to try something new and completely out of my comfort zone, something clean, elegant, and inspired by the sensuous flowers of summer.
First, I'm going to tell you how I did my "no-makeup makeup" (above).
I cleansed my face and applied serum and light moisturizer. Then I mixed NARS Illuminator in Sand with a dab of Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #5 and applied it over top, concealing any spots with my Make Up Forever Full Cover Concealer in #7.
Knowing that I wanted something white to echo those gorgeous flowers I adore so much, I chose a crisp white liquid liner from Stila to headline the whole look. I'm also using my favorite mascara and blush, which are both super light and perfect for hot summer weather.
I started off by generously applying my all-time favorite blush, Stila Self Adjusting Blush in Pink, to the apples of my cheeks.
Then I did a thick cat-eye swoop with Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner in Snow--this stuff has the best pigment and staying power of any liquid product I've tried. There’s a reason beauty bloggers everywhere swear by it! Feel free to go to town and exaggerate this cat-eye as much as you’d like.
The best part about a white-lined eye and no-makeup makeup base is that you can rock a little extra bright pigment, like this blush, and still look elegant.
After my white wings were perfected, I applied my current favorite mascara, Givenchy Noir Couture 4 in 1 Mascara, to define my top lashes. I like the contrast of the bare bottom lash and coated top lash, and it makes the liner stand out.
What are your thoughts on white eyeliner? Do you wear it? How are you tweaking your makeup for the hottest month of summer?
