Indonesia is trying to kill me, you guys.
OK, I’ll be a little less dramatic and a little more specific. Every year about this time, Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia get plagued by smoke from forest fires in Sumatra, in Indonesia. These fires have been started by farmers in Indonesia who need to clear land cheaply.
My usually pretty commute to work was reduced to this on Monday morning:
And when Singapore politicians mentioned it to Indonesia, this is the response we got:
The smoke level is at a 16-year high and my eczema and asthma are going crazy, I have to resort to long-sleeves and-- horror of all horrors--a surgical face mask. I know it doesn't block all smoke particles out, but it does help a teensy bit.
The good news: nobody looks bangin' in a mask. The bad news: I'm vain. So since my lips and cheeks are hidden from the world, I've been wearing three eye makeup looks of late that I'm hoping to rotate until this haze phase is over.
LOOK 1: BRONZED
This is a super easy late-for-work routine I've been pulling off: NARS The Multiple in Palm Beach on the whole lid, with Make Up Store's pencil eyeliner in Gold Digger in my inner eye.
LOOK 2: PLUM
When I'm desperate for some color on my face, or when I'm trying to take attention away from the ghastly mask I'm rocking, I use MAC's Vainglorious Eye Shadow on my lid, and Face Atelier Facade in Livid in my crease. It's a liquid-to-powder formula for your lips and cheeks, but I use it for my eyes sometimes too. Line your lids with a kohl pencil and smudge it out.
LOOK 3: SMOKY EYE (HOW APROPOS)
A girl can't deprive herself of people and places for too long, so I'm gearing up for a time when I have to wear a mask to an outdoor cocktail shindig of some sort. When that time comes, I'll have a mix of NARS Shimmer Eyeshadow in Night Porter (a deep green with sparkles!) and Night Breed on my lids and outer eye. Don't forget a swipe of mascara to complete it all, of course.
This comes in handy if you have to wear surgical masks in a medical facility and you have your eye on a hot doctor, too!
Wish me luck as I brave my smoky city...
