Some worked wonders, some left me wishing I could get my money back.

It happens at least once every day. I’m sitting at my desk, riding my bike, walking the dog, or lying in bed, and suddenly it hits me. My lips hurt sooo badly. I need some lip chap, STAT!

Sometimes I wake up in the morning with blood in my mouth because my lips are so dry that they’ve cracked. Why? Why is this happening to me? I drink water and herbal tea all day long, so there’s no way I’m dehydrated, and I’ve been living in smoggy, humid Toronto for six years, which more than covers my adjustment period.

You can imagine it’s very difficult for me to wear even a hint of lipstick, because adding a colored product to my lips only makes the dryness look worse. As a result, I’ve collected a ton of lip balms.

I probably own enough lip balm to last me half a decade, even with daily application. I own four different kinds of rosebud salve (the tins are so cute), a bunch of novelty products like macaron lip balm, and a handful of natural products. Some of the natural lip chaps have worked wonders, others have left me wishing I could get my money back, but trying all of them has certainly been an adventure. And, of course, I just have to share!

EOS Sphere Lip Balm in Pomegranate Raspberry

Now infamous for its cameo in Miley Cyrus's “We Can’t Stop” video, EOS lip balms are 95% organic, 100% natural, and packaged in these strangely adorable eggs. The product is loaded with shea butter and vitamin E, but it didn't do much for me. Despite reapplying many times, I didn't notice any difference in the chapped state of my lips.

Province Apothecary Repairing and Conditioning Lip Balm

Province Apothecary Repairing and Conditioning Lip Balm

I’m a long-time fan of Province Apothecary proprietor Julie Clark and her local, natural skincare, but I actually received this product in a goodie bag from Green + Good. Heavy on lavender and peppermint essential oils, I like using this formula right before bed to feel extra relaxed. The combination of calendula oil, beeswax, and sunflower seed oil makes for great coverage and a long wear. Plus, I really like the way it feels on my lips.

Tata Harper Be Adored Rosy Tinted Lip Treatment

Also from my G+G goodie bag, this Tata Harper lip balm is formulated with date palm extract to boost collagen, wheat extract for plumping, and rhubarb, green tea, and açaí oils for moisture and environmental protection. It gives a hint of color and goes on smooth and nourishing. Unfortunately it wasn't hydrating enough for my heavily chapped lips.

Bare English & Co. Vanilla Coconut Lip Balm

Bare English & Co. Vanilla Coconut Lip Balm

I really wanted to love this, but it was a total disappointment. One of three vegan lip chaps on this list, it smells like coconut, which I love, and is infused with green tea, which I also love. But something about it isn’t quite right. Maybe my particular stick got too warm, but the balm turned all chunky and bumpy, rendering it completely useless for anything but before bed coverage. I look like I have a strange lip disease when I'm wearing it... it's not pretty!

Meow Meow Tweet Rosemary Eucalyptus Lip Balm

Made with candelilla wax instead of beeswax, Meow Meow Tweet lip balms are loaded with hemp seed oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter, and essential oils, based on the scent you choose (unless you opt for pure cocoa). It’s thick, easy to apply, moisturizing, and comes in a handful of delicious scents. I like to keep it at my desk so I can use it regularly throughout the day. I love this product!

RMS Lip and Skin Balm

RMS Lip and Skin Balm

How have I gone so long without trying anything from RMS? I'm totally hooked. So far I’ve tried their incredible volumizing mascara, which I adore, and this lip balm in Simply Cocoa. It's full of coconut oil, cocoa butter, argan oil, and a ton of other deeply moisturizing and healing ingredients. I can honestly say this is the best lip product I've ever worn. I take it with me everywhere. It works so fast to make my lips smooth and kissable.

Have you tried any of these lip chaps? What's your go-to natural lip balm?
