I used to conform to the usual fall palette of gray, black, brown, burgundy, and autumnal yellows and oranges, but the colors of dying leaves never really appealed to me. Honestly, I think seasonal colors are kind of boring.
In case you haven’t noticed, I love brightly colored makeup and hair. Pastels, jewel tones, neons--I love them all. While I'll admit that there's something to be said for neutrals, I live for all things bright and saturated.
I especially love pastels, even just as an accent to an otherwise drab ensemble. (Side note: my future dream home will be white with a hot pink door, because: pink.)
Here are three ways I'll be wearing non-seasonal colors on my eyes, lips, and nails this fall.
I used to think pink eye makeup just looked like pink eye, but then I fell in love with this Pinterest photo and became totally obsessed.
To get the look, I use a combination of pinks from my ELF Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette. I start with a glow-y pink on my lower lids, then I line my upper lash line with Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner in Paradise Pink, adding a little cat-eye for good measure. The final touch is a coat of RMS Volumizing Mascara.
Purple lips aren’t easy to wear, but the weirdness fades away once you get used to it, I promise. At this point I think of purple lipstick as a paler version of pink lipstick, and I just love how it looks with fall neutrals like gray and cream.
To get the perfect shade of purple, I combine NYX Macaron Lippie in Lavender and Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Coven. The result is a neutral, opaque purple with just the right amount of color and a tiny hint of gray.
I always love the look of bright nails with an otherwise neutral outfit, and right now my favorite colors to sport are unexpected shades of light blue. Here are the three I'm loving now:
- China Glaze in At Vase Value, an ultra-milky light mint.
- Floss Gloss in Wave Pool, a matte bright turquoise.
- RGB in Pool, a high-shine baby blue.
Do you wear brights and pastels in the fall? How do you make bright makeup work with your fall wardrobe?
