I got my hands on four.

When I think of NARS, I think of a sleek, modern day French woman who puts little-to-no effort into her daily routine yet still comes out slaying harder than Beyoncé. OK, maybe that was a bit of a stretch, but you catch my drift.

One of the most glamorous makeup brands around, creative director and founder François Nars launched NARS in 1994, with just 12 lipsticks. Now, in celebration of the its 20th anniversary, NARS is launching The Audacious Lipstick Collection, comprised of 40 intensely pigmented lipsticks that range from neutral nudes to deep purples.

Starting September 1st, 30 of the shades ($32 each) will be available at NARS boutiques and online at narscosmetics.com, while the other 10 will be sold exclusively at Barneys New York. Being the lipstick fanatic that I am, I did backflips when this came through my inbox.

Naturally, I wanted to test out all 40 shades, but NARS wasn’t having that, so I settled for four of my choosing: the four colors (below) that work with my skin tone and have the potential to become my new favorite fall lipsticks.

Annabella, Janet, Charlotte and Liv.

Liv

Liv is my favorite of the bunch. It’s a deep purple that I plan to wear throughout fall, winter, spring, and even next summer. Basically, I’m never giving this up.

Charlotte

Charlotte is my second favorite. This burgundy is the perfect red for fall.

Janet

I’d be a liar if I said Janet didn’t make me feel like Ms. Jackson herself. There’s something about this magenta shade that makes me want to break out into an '80s eight count. Too bad I can’t dance.

Annabella

I’m a hardcore red lipstick wearer, but Annabella is my least favorite of the bunch. It’s a bit too orangey for me, but my inner Francophile might still wear it.

All four of these lipsticks are highly pigmented; I don’t think I’ve ever used a non-matte lipstick that produced such color. I mean, one swipe and you’re ready to hit the door. (Does anyone ever actually do one swipe?) The formula is so smooth, soft, and luscious that it almost feels like velvet. That moisture-rich feeling coupled with the intense pigmentation makes these lipsticks a definite a win in my book.

As for packaging, the cases are matte black metallic with a magnetic closure. Remember that sleek French woman I mentioned? This is her lipstick, and since I get to wear it, I am she.
