When I don't have the color I crave, I toy around with the shades I own to come up with perfect blends.

Sometimes I’m looking for a very specific shade of lipstick, but I can’t find it in my collection. Generally, when this happens an internal battle ensues that goes something like this:

“Oooh yay, time to make a trip to Sephora!” *celebration music*

*record scratch*

“You got Sephora money?”

“Walgreens?”

“No boo, you’ve got bills.”

*sigh* “You’re right.”

When this happens, I toy around with different lip shades to come up with combos that suit my needs.

Here are some of the best combos I’ve come up with thus far.

Colour Pop Lippie Pencil in Lumiere + NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Mahogany + Urban Decay Lip Gloss in Sesso = The Perfect Rose Brown

L to R: Lumiere, Mahogany, Sesso

L to R: Lumiere, Mahogany, Sesso

I love your-lips-but-better shades, and I’m warming up to brown shades, so I need a color that fell in the middle of the spectrum.

I start by lining and filling in my lips with Mahogany and then trace back over it with Lumiere. I blend the two shades together with my pinky and add a touch of gloss, Sesso, for comfort.

I only use a dab of gloss because I want the finish to look creamy not shiny.

Urban Decay Sheer Revolution in Sheer Ladyflower + Sheer Streak = The Perfect Soft Pink

I like both of these Urban Decay Sheer Revolution shades solo, but I love to wear them together. Soft pink shades are hard for me because sometimes I feel like they read a bit light on me. This combination gives me a subtle look that has just enough pink to it to suit me!

Still so in love with this formula too!

NYX Creamy Round Lipstick in Electra + NYX Soft Matte Cream in Monte Carlo = The Perfect Long-Lasting Intense Red

L-Monte Carlo R-Electra

This combo is a little more about wear and comfort than just about the color. Electra is such a comfortable lipstick to wear, but I find that there is not enough blue to it to suit my needs and it tends to fade after a few hours. On the flip-side, Monte Carlo is very long-lasting, but not as intense as I would like.

The two together make a perfect creamy combo that lasts all day!

I love a good matte red but it's nice to go the creamy route sometimes too!

MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Flat Out Fabulous + MAC Matte Lipstick in Heroine = LIFE

In case you couldn't tell, this is my hands-down favorite lipstick combo.

Heroine was my first-ever purple lipstick purchase, and it's still one of my favorite shades of all time. Likewise, Flat Out Fabulous is one of the few lipsticks that I've had to actually replenish.

Together, they form a shade of purple/pink that is perfection.

This is my most complimented lip combo, and I love that I can adjust it to be more pink or more purple depending on my mood.
