You shouldn’t have to choose between buying makeup or food, so here are some cheap matte lipsticks that make sure you won’t have to go hungry.

Between my across-the-world trips to see my man, my yoga and gym memberships, and my hypochondriac tendencies, I don’t have a lot of money to blow on makeup. Every time I come close to a Tom Ford counter, I think about how many meals I can get out of the one lipstick and I run away with my arms flailing.

My recent obsession with matte lipsticks had me on a cheap-lipsticks hunt when I was in LA. While I understand how a luxurious lipstick feels on your skin, you can’t quite help it when your bank account allows more for $1.99 lipsticks than a $49 one. So I went looking for matte lip colors that are the approximate prices of my favorite foods.

WET N WILD MEGALAST LIP COLOR = A BOTTLE OF HOT SAUCE

That's $1.99 happiness, y'all.

You will never find me without lip color or hot sauce. I travel with hot sauce in my bag, and I carry a tiny bottle of Tabasco with me wherever I go. I can probably stomach those ridiculous spicy foods that Adam Richman puts himself through in Man v. Food. My Indian palate withstands spicy food so much that whenever I’m in a Thai spot in the US, I have to insist that they make my food “Thai spicy” instead of “American spicy.”

My favorite buy from CVS this trip wass Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color for its price, how wonderfully pigmented the color is, and how many shades it comes in. I came home with three shades (and you know I’ll be back for more). It's more semi-matte than it is matte, but when it's $1.99, bitches, you can't complain.

MAYBELLINE VIVIDS = CHIPOTLE BOWL

Chipotle is the best fast food out of the US, I reckon, and it could be relatively healthy, too, if you make the right choices of what goes into your bowl. Plus, it’s SO GOOD.

Likewise, the Maybelline Vivids lip color in Hot Plum that Alle sent me during our swap is such a delicious color. Instead of stressing out about the fact that it’s not matte, I used a hot pink blush that I already have from MAC and pat it on, and ta-dah! A DIY matte lipstick without sweating the small stuff.

NYX MATTE LIPSTICK = A SMALL BUNCH OF CELERY

Truth time: If xoJane had a food site (xoGain, hee-hee), I would be on it more frequently than I am on xoVain. While I’m a self-proclaimed relatively good cook, I’m quite lazy, so I’d rather be chomping on a celery stick than to cook something out of it.

I love NYX for their stunning colors and their matte lipsticks are no different.

LIME CRIME VELVETINES = THAI TAKEOUT

Image Title6

Is there any better food in the world than Thai food? Fragrant, spicy and usually made with the freshest ingredients, I could live on Thai food alone for the rest of my life.

The gloss slowly drying out to a matte finish. Way cool.

The priciest out of all my matte favorites, Lime Crime’s Velvetines is a matte lip color in a different category all together. It’s a liquid lipstick that goes on like gloss and dries out completely matte. It’s absolutely genius, and worth the $16.99 you’re forking out for it.

Tell me what you're favorite cheapie matte lip colors are!
