How do I create a makeup look that works for my very dry skin but also won't get all melted and shiny?

I have a wedding to go to this weekend and, naturally, I want to look my best. The problem is that it's an outdoor wedding in June, which creates an interesting dilemma for me: how do I create a makeup look that works for my very dry skin but also won't get all melted and shiny? I know: it's a tricky one. I figured I'd follow Caitlin's lead and ask you beauty geniuses.

Here are the trusty products that I use for an "I am NOT messing around" full-face look and will probably employ this weekend:

I don't have time or money to go shopping so this is what we're working with, people!

I don't have time or money to go shopping so this is what we're working with, people!

The products pictured, if you're curious, are (in the order I apply them): Smashbox Hydrating Foundation PrimerTweezerman ProCurl Lash Curler, Maybelline Full 'n' Soft Waterproof MascaraTarte Energy Noir Clay Palette which happens to be on sale right now (used with this primer), Japonesque Luminous FoundationNARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl, NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in Exotic, Smashbox Limitless Waterproof Brow DefinerJaponesque Velvet Touch Finishing Powder, and Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. I use the Artis Oval 6 Brush pictured for foundation (in addition to so many other brushes, pictured as a blur above).

Damn, that was a lot to type out AND I forgot about eyeliner. I'll probably use a Make Up Forever Aqua XL Eye Pencil for a slightly smudged look or Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner for a subtle cat-eye.

The concealer, foundation, and highlighter that I use are all great for achieving a dewy look on dry skin. Meanwhile I'm hoping the addition of primer, powder, and setting spray will keep things from veering from "dewy" to "melted wax figure." That's the plan, anyway. I am more than open to any advice for makeup that looks good on dry skin and also lasts through sun, sweat, and dancing!

Now it's time to give some appreciation to the best Comments of the Week:

1. "sony_b" shared a good tip for packing beauty products when traveling

I used to travel internationally for work and always went carryon. My best tip is the things you're not going to use very much of, like eye cream or a stable serum can go in a contact lens case. Leakproof, doesn't need to go in your liquids bag if it doesn't fit, and nobody will look at it twice.

2. Seriously hoping Beautypedia takes "hannah k" up on this suggestion:

what we need is a beautypedia where one can customize the ratings, like, "i love lavender extract, hate silicones, and have combination skin," and then it spits out a thumbs-up or thumbs-down for you.

3. Sable happened to compare a makeup palette to Bob Ross and "penelope_deadly" took it and RAN WITH IT:

I NEED BOB ROSS STYLE MAKEUP TUTORIALS IN MY LIFE. For eyeliner trouble, "there are no mistakes, just happy little accidents!" For technical skills, "now just take your brush and ...blend the devil out o' it!" For going off the beaten track, "now remember, this is your face. You can do whatever you like with it."

4. I appreciated this lilac perfume dupe shared by "Bambalamb":

If anyone's looking for a dupe, Violet Eyes by Elizabeth Taylor is almost identical to Eclat d'Arpege (a little more powdery and doesn't last as long) and obviously costs a lot less. It's what I reach for when none of my other perfumes feel quite right :)

5. This comment by "cee" on the beauty news roundup made me laugh:

man i read the headline too fast and i was like 'damn how did i miss the pope's alicia keys phase'

OK, I hope everyone has an awesome weekend--and I'll be sure to check back here to see if anyone has any good advice for me. Feel free to follow along on my Instagram (@picturesque_liar) if you want to see how my wedding makeup look turns out!

  • Dry skin or not, how would you do your makeup for an outdoor summer wedding?
  • What's everyone else up to this weekend? It can be beauty-related or not!
