Judging by the comments section on last week’s LOTW, I’d say you were just as inspired by Trista’s Cranberry lipstick article as I was! So many of you were rocking that bold red that I just have to join you.
I fell in love with the classic red lip in the mid-'90s, thanks to Gwen Stefani, but today I gravitate more toward bright pink, berry, and wine shades. Scrolling through the comments last week was like a rediscovery of pre-teen Tamara’s obsession with ruby red lips.
Here are my favorite red lip looks from you beauties last week:
(Shout out to "Dana with a question mark," "Jeminycrickets," and "Mjá.")
And here’s how I'm wearing the look:
I decided not to do shadow for this because I wanted the lip to be the primary focus. Since I have pretty oily lids, I did go ahead and do an eyelid primer (Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer) and then applied my base, concealer, and brows. I used a gel liner (*gasp* I know, I deviated from my Jordana pen!) because I wanted a thicker line and gel lends itself better to layering in my opinion.
I drew a line from inner corner to the outer corner, extending just beyond the eye in an upward flick motion, and finished with a couple coats of L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Lashes in Blackest Black.
Moving on to those lacquered lips, I prepped with a quick scrub of my e.l.f. Exfoliating Lip Treatment and a thin layer of The Body Shop Honeymania Lip Balm. Once the balm sunk in, I lined and filled in my lips with the NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Hot Red.
I don’t always use liner when I wear lipstick, but I like it with a red lip because it gives it more punch and staying power. To seal the look, I layered on Revlon Matte Balm Stain in Standout. This is one of my all-time favorite matte red lip colors. It's comfortable and it has such a great blue undertone that I think compliments a lot of skin tones. Additionally, it is super long lasting, so you know I’m sold.
Before I leave it to you to flood me with your lovely faces (and please, please do), I have to give honorable mention to this white liner look that "g_babes" was rocking on Instagram last week. It reminded me of Samantha’s post a while back that made me really reconsider wearing white liner.
