Retro babe vibes emanating from today's most crushable indie muse darling.

I do not listen to Lana Del Rey. Please don't hate me. I mean, I've definitely heard a song or two, but I haven't actively listened listened. Does that make me super-uncool? I guess using the term "super-uncool" isn't helping.

I think the first time I heard about Lana was a celebrity gossip site (I'm pretty sure it was Ohnotheydidnt--judge away) that linked to an article describing her former style as more akin to waitress at Chili's rather than indie muse darling. Is that insulting? I don't know, we don't have a Chili's.

Anyway, it attempted to paint her as a fraud, which struck me as odd because if you're going to post pictures of someone from when they were 15, there's going to be change (says the emo girl with multicoloured hair).

So, I suppose you're wondering why some girl who doesn't even have Lana Del Rey on her playlist is here giving you Lana Del Rey-inspired makeup tips. Well, although I am not aurally informed, visually, Lana gives me total babe vibes; girl's got it going on!

And when I noticed she did the whole double-flick eyeliner thing, I thought I'd come up with my own take on it.

This might not even be a double flick, but it came up in my google search for double winged eyeliner. Work with me.

FACE

Lana always looks dewy and ethereal, so I used YSL's Le Teint Touche Éclat. I love this foundation because it's really luminous and natural. Oh, and it smells expensive, too.

EYES

First, using the Urban Decay Basics palette, I applied Venus (a soft off-white demi-matte) all over my lids.

Then I took Avon Glimmersticks waterproof eyeliner in Chocolate Splash (a dark brown, and I think it's now called Brown Chocolate) and traced out a new sort of crease on my eyelid.

This look is really "bedroom eyes," and my eyes are very shallow-set with a low crease, so we really have to fake the depth here.

This picture kind of reminds me of that time Homer used that makeup gun on Marge.

I blended it out using a rounded shadow brush, while carefully adding Faint (a medium matte brown) into the line as I went along. I also added a touch of Crave (a deep dark brown/matte black, but for me it reads on the greyer side of black) as I went along.

In retrospect, I think I should've just stuck to just either greys or browns and not mixed them into his weird grey-brown hybrid thing, but what's makeup if not for experimenting?

I also lined my waterline in white, and added Crave below the lash line, but only on the outer half of the eye.

I then used a black pencil eyeliner, MAC Powerpoint in Engraved, to create the first line and flick. Using the pencil as a guide makes it easier when applying the liquid on top.

I also layered the pencil on top of Crave on my lower lashes, making the line under the outer lashes thicker.

Make sure to blend, blend, blend - which I could've done a better job of, let's be honest.

I used liquid liner on top of the pencil, and then added another flick on top. These are supposed to look like lashes so I left the ends slightly feathered, instead of as a solid point. (But I think it looks alright either way.)

Finish with a coat of mascara and you're done! (I filled my brows in with Crave and Faint using an angled brush.)

THE REST OF THE LOOK

I used Benefit 10, a bronzer/highlighter combo that's quite subtle on me unless I pack it on. I used the bronzer below the cheeks, on my temples and highest part of my hairline, and the highlighter on my cheekbones.

For my lips, I used Clinique Chubby Stick Moisurizing Lip Colour Balm in Mega Melon, a nude-orange kind of colour. I like the texture of these because they feel quite moisturizing and don't accentuate dryness.

Here is the final look:

I asked my boyfriend what he thought of this look and he replied with, "Very Republican."

I never know whether or not to include the background. Half of me says I'm taking the magic away, the other half says I'm keeping it real.

What do you guys think of the double flick? Would you try it out? Post pictures if you do!
