Let's have some red, white and blue (and gold) fun!

Here in the US, we're getting ready to celebrate Independence Day on Saturday, and while that means a lot of things to a lot of different people, my fondest memories of July 4th always involve grilling outside and watching my dad set off a plethora of fireworks. You seriously haven’t seen pure joy until you’ve seen my dad with a firework on the ground and a lighter in his hand.

So, in honor of my country’s independence, I’m adding a touch of the good ol’ red, white and blue to my look of the week.

Although I enjoy all of the variety of colored fireworks, the gold, glittery kind have always been my favorite. I used to watch those fireworks spread in the sky like golden sunbursts and just be completely in awe. I wanted to add a bit of that golden fun to this look so I took an angled brush and applied a golden cream shadow to my upper lash line.

I used the NYX Cream Shadow in gold.

Once I had the sparkling situation handled, I traced along the outer third of my upper lash line with blue liquid liner extending into a wing.

This is the NYX Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Blue; I dipped my angled brush into the product on the brush that came with the liner because I like the control of an angled brush better.

I added a dash of white to  the underside of that wing and smudged it softly along my lower lash line with a q-tip.

I used the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk.

I started out the whole look with my base and brows already done so I finished the eyes first with a healthy dose of black mascara on my upper lashes and secondly with a little bit of blue mascara over the top.

I also added a bit of blue in sporadic spots along the upper lash line over the gold so it looked like little bits of gold were peeking out of the blue.

For the lips I added NARS Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella and layered CoverGirl Lip Lava in Live Love Lava over the top for some added sparkle and shine.

I finished the look by applying matte bronzer as a blush.

Happy Independence Day!
