Three ways to wear neon shadows.

I held off buying the Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigment Palette for quite some time, because I feared that I would never use it. Bright neon eye shadow isn't practical, right? Wrong. I played around with this palette and found three ways to wear it, from super subtle to bold without feeling like a cartoon.

1. Accent Color

Blended like this, Chaos isn’t super intense.

I like using some of the darker bright shades as an accent or crease color to add a little pop to an otherwise standard look. For this I dusted Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eye Shadow in Bella Copper onto the mobile lid, Chaos from the Electric Palette to the outer V of my crease, and I blended it all out with Makeup Geek Eye Shadow in Crème Brulee.

2. Playful Punch

It’s not overwhelming, but it’s a playful little punch.

Another way to wear bright neon is as a liner. You can use it to line you upper lash liner, lower lash line, or both if you prefer, and it adds an unexpected pop. I personally prefer to use it on my lower lash line because I think it makes my brown eyes look even better. For this I used Bella Copper again on my lid, Bella Bronze in the crease, and I lined my upper lash line with the TYRA by Tyra Banks Oops Linermy new favorite. On the lower lid I applied the shade Gonzo from the Electric Palette with a dampened angle brush to my lower lash line.

3. Going Bold

This color combo is giving me sunset vibes.

You don’t always have to wear neon shadows just as an accent; they’re bold for a reason. Sometimes it’s fun to go full force with bright shades, and it can be a different look for a night out. I wanted to go a little neon Barbie with this so I primed my lids with the NYX Cosmetics Jumbo Eye Shadow Stick in Milk to make sure the colors really popped. Next I applied Slow Burn (a bright orange shade) all over the mobile lid, making sure to pack the color on in light layers to build up the opacity. To give a little definition, I added the shade Urban to my crease and also as a liner on my upper and lower lash line (I applied it damp in the case of the liner). I blended everything on the lid out with Savage (hot pink) and added the Milani Bella Eyes Shadow in Bella White to highlight my brow bone.

I’m a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world.

In keeping with the Barbie vibes, I mixed MAC Lipstick in Twig with Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipstick in Vivid Plum and kept the blush neutral (MAC Powder Blush Gingerly).

Now, the moment you've all been waiting for! My favorite looks from last week's LOTW were...

  • How do you guys feel about super vibrant shadow shades?
  • Do you prefer neon to be your focal point, or just an accent?

It’s your turn now. Show me the selfies! You can leave them here in the comments or tag me on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter too; just make sure to tag @xoVain and #xolotw!
