As with so many other xoVainers these days, no luminizer (or highligher or illuminator — whatever you want to call them) gets left behind when it comes to my shopping cart. While I prefer liquid or cream formulations, the powder versions have their place in my arsenal as well. No price range is safe. I need them all.
Unfortunately, I'm moving, so I'm forced to take inventory of all of my precious belongings, and it's become very apparent that my highlighter addiction is a bit excessive. But in my defense, it's probably the product that I go through the fastest besides mascara.
These are the highlighters that made the cut and are crossing the country with me.
This is the original love of my life that got me addicted to all the others. The liquid version is the original, and still my favorite, but there are powder versions now as well. I currently have two colors, Moonstone and Opal, but at one point I also had the Rose Gold before it broke and stained my entire makeup drawer (100% my fault).
In the liquid version, there are five colors in all, so women of color have some options that won't leave a white cast on the skin. A lot of times I wear this over my entire face, sans foundation. If I'm wearing foundation, I've usually mixed a drop of this into it before applying.
I have to just address that I use these as a HIGHLIGHTER and not as a finishing product. I know a lot of people use it as a finishing powder over their entire face, but I find it way too sparkly to use as anything but a highlighter. Am I alone on this?
I can't describe the amount of rage that happens when you order all three of these highlighters and then you break one AS SOON AS YOU TAKE IT OUT OF THE PACKAGE. Of course it's the one that I like the most that I broke. It hasn't stopped me from using it, though.
This palette offers an affordable option for people, like myself, who are easily distracted by sparkly things. Or for people who have a highlighter hoarding issue. My personal favorite is the lilac-toned shade because I haven't seen much else like it out there.
A new favorite for me, this Korean beauty brand came to the U.S. recently and won my heart. The texture of this is so smooth; I just want to rub it all over my body. There are only two shades so far, but they're nice for a multitude of skin tones.
Again, I prefer the liquid more so than the powder, but this is one of those splurge-worthy products that I can't get enough of. This is another formula that I like to mix into my foundation before applying.
I should mention that the powder versions of everything on this list tend to be more pigmented than their liquid counterparts, which is why I feel like I can mix them with my foundation without looking overly sparkly. I reserve the powders for cheekbones and brow bones for the most part.
I wish I could tell you that these were the only highlighters that I owned before packing, but they're just my favorites. (And I'll probably get more once I'm settled into the new home.)
