I've mentioned before that cream shadow formulas typically aren't for me; most of the time I stick to powders. I’m not above trying out new or interesting formulas, though, and Giorgio Armani Eye Tints piqued my curiosity.

Armani Eye Tints

L to R: Onyx, Rose Ashes, Senso, Jade, Miniut.

Each tint comes in a lip gloss-like tube with a doe foot applicator. I like this kind of applicator because it makes distributing the product easy and more precise, and I can clean the wand in between uses.

What immediately struck me was the intensity of the pigment--one swipe yields excellent color payoff.

At first swatch, I was worried that the wet, creamy texture wouldn't set, but it did so rather quickly. And once it dried into a powder finish it blended just like an actual powder formula, while maintaining excellent pigmentation. It even paired well with regular powder shadows.

1-2: Rose Ashes on lid, Senso in crease. 3-4: Jade and Onyx on lid, Miniut in crease.

In addition to being highly pigmented and blendable, these tints are extremely long-wearing. I wore them out for the day both with eye shadow primer and without; in both cases they lasted all day.

Without primer I got about six hours of wear before I noticed any fading, and it still looked good at the end of the day. With primer I didn’t see any fading. Even after 10 hours of wear my shadow looked freshly applied.

Confession: I always secretly hope that high-end products aren’t going to be worth the hype (at $38 a pop, these tints are not cheap), but I can say that these are absolutely worth the price. I’ve finally found a creamy formula that blends well, gives me the pigmentation I love, and most importantly, stays put on my oily lids all day.
