A couple weeks back, supermodel Gigi Hadid turned 21. To me, that was mostly a reminder of how some 21-year-olds have their life together and I, a regular 21-year-old, do not.
Gigi and I have three things in common, though: our love for Zayn, '90s fashion, and and copper eyeshadow.
For her 21st birthday in Las Vegas, she wore a beautiful copper eye with a matte berry lip. Usually berry lips are an autumn staple, but she made it look so fresh and spring-appropriate that I had to recreate it.
Gigi's makeup style is very no-nonsense. I like that a lot — her looks are always super-fresh but still glam. Her base does not look thick or heavy at all. I recreated that by applying my CC cream on top of my Makeup Revolution Ultra Strobe Cream, which I applied on the high points of my face. The strobe cream gives me a lit-from-within glow instead of a harsh sheen.
I highlighted the higher points of my face with a light concealer. I did this to give my face some more depth without having to contour a lot.
I think part of why Gigi's looks are always so fresh-faced is that she doesn't do a harsh contour. I blended the concealer with my fingers, because it works well with this product.
After applying my concealer, I moved on to the brow and eye area. Gigi's brows look very natural so I only filled in the gaps with my Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow and called it a day.
For the eyes, I primed my lids and defined my crease with The Mail from my I-Divine Oh So Special Palette by Sleek. This is just a matte sand color, but I use it all the time; I'd recommend getting that palette simply for that color.
I highlighted my brow bone with a white matte eyeshadow, Strange from my Naked3 palette.
I also applied Tease to the outer half of the lower lashline for a smoky effect.
I couldn't exactly tell what's going on on Gigi's lids, so I took my artistic liberty and settled on a halo effect eye. On the inner and outer third of the eye I applied Chopper from my Naked2 palette. I just lightly pressed it on my lid to get maximum glitter pay-off.
On the middle of the lid, I applied Strange, the white one from Naked3. To help blend Chopper and Strange together, I applied Bootycall from Naked2 on my blending brush while I was blending the two colors.
Gigi had a major inner-corner highlight going on. To recreate it, I applied my ColourPop Lunch Money highlighter with my fingers. To prevent it from moving around I applied Bootycall over top.
To finish off I applied a white kohl on the waterline to open up the eye. I use my Catrice Kohl Kajal in White for this, but the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk is a good option too, if you can't get Catrice cosmetics. The only reason I opt for this one instead is because I'm afraid to poke myself in the eye with the Jumbo Eye Pencil.
To finish off I just applied mascara and false lashes.
After finishing the eyes I just cleaned up any eyeshadow from my cheeks.
To set my base I used my Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot powder and lightly dusted it over my face. I used a very light hand to apply the powder because I wanted to keep my base very radiant.
On the outer parts of my face, I applied a generous amount of Bourjois blush in Coup de Foudre, which I forgot I had until Tamara and Morgan's makeup swap.
Gigi's lips were very matte and very berry. I couldn't really identify the product — maybe it's Maybelline (ha!) because she's got a big contract with them — I couldn't find anything quite like it by Maybelline, though.
I had a hard time finding a berry liquid lipstick (liquid lipsticks aren't easily available here, ugh) so I opted for this Honey Berry Lip Liner by Essence. These lip liners are only about a dollar and they're super-comfortable to wear on their own.
Even though I'm quite disappointed that I didn't turn into Gigi Hadid, I really like this look. I've been wearing variations of this look for a while now. It's fresh-faced and it suits any occasion.
