Is it harder for you to find the right shade of nude lipstick than it is to find a bold red? If you answered yes, don't feel discouraged. It has taken me five years to find my signature nude--and I’m certain it's discontinued by now. (Cue the violins...)
But there's no time like the present--when pink and beige nudes are making a stellar comeback--to find a new favorite nude lipstick. And you know I love a lipstick search/challenge, especially one that appeals to different skin tones.
So, with a little help from my friend, Haley, I've chosen five amazing nude lipsticks and tested them on two different skin tones. Ready to get nude?
1. Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Beige ($26)
Bobbi Brown's beige lip color will forever and always knock it out of the park. It's formulated with vitamins E and C and beeswax for a smooth application and moisturizing finish. As for the shade, it gets a standing ovation for being a full-bodied peach-nude that looks natural and flattering on both mine and Haley's complexions. It also lasted through an entire Beyoncé/Jay-Z "On The Run" concert without having to be reapplied. A++ for pigmentation, hydration, and coverage.
2. Maybelline Color Elixir in Glistening Amber ($8.99)
This yellow-toned nude with gold shimmer was the most promising of the bunch. It's also the only gloss I chose to include; I like that the formula is moisturizing, but not sticky. The brush doesn't deliver an even application, though, and the scent is a bit overwhelming. As far as wear, it's more like a balm than a gloss. The color blended with my natural lip color, but it was more caramel on Haley.
3. Chanel Rouge Allure in Indécise ($35)
I’ve already posted on Chanel Rouge Allure in Indécise. It's one of the richest nudes I've ever tried! The color is a semi-opaque pink-beige with a brilliant shimmer overlay. It glides on super lightweight but stays put for up to four hours. Not to mention the pigment reads very similar and natural on both mine and Haley's lips.
This is my ride or die drugstore lipstick. You can't beat it for quality and price. The shade is a warm peach-nude that applies smooth and creamy without any caking. I get several hours of wear with zero dryness. The pigment is very rich and babely on Haley, while being slightly frosted with pink undertones on me.
I’m on the fence about this one. The color seeps into fine lines and the finish is quite drying. Yes, it's long-lasting, but it doesn’t wear comfortably. And even though Nylon Nude is also formulated with vitamins E and C, it's just not as moisturizing as Bobbi Brown lip color. It wears like a true nude on Haley, but on me it almost looks like concealer.
Taking into consideration all of the things that make a great lipstick--coverage, application, longevity, and pigmentation--the clear winner is Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Beige.
Have you tried nude lipstick? If not, what's holding you back? If so, how do you do the rest of your makeup for a nude lip look?
