Recently, my beauty routine got new inspiration from Gch Vjk-Myst Garbonita's California Journey, or CJ for short. CJ just won Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, aka the Greatest American Dog Pageant.
This German shorthaired pointer has only been showing for six months, but he's already bagged multiple "Best in Show" titles. He keeps his figure trim by running several times a day. His beauty routine is probably as complex as mine. Anyone who works this hard to compete in a pageant circuit, whether they're a drag queen, beauty queen, or show dog, deserves consideration as a beauty icon.
Seriously, though, I think that animals are criminally overlooked as beauty inspirations (when was the last time you looked at a duck?) Dogs make particularly good inspirations, because we've selectively bred them into all kinds of appealing shapes, sizes and colors. You can't tell me that there's anything more stylish than a Dalmatian, or more iconic than a husky. I regularly see long-haired dachshunds and think, That dog has good hair.
So, to honour CJ's achievements in the field of canine beauty, I put together the following look.
I started by evening out my skin with MAC Pro Longwear Foundation. I could have left all my scars and marks visible in tribute to CJ's speckles, but that didn't seem like conduct befitting a champion. CJ's handlers didn't win Westminster by slacking!
I chose a satiny chocolate shadow from Charlotte Tilbury, because it's fancy and expensive, just like Westminster. I applied the color to the outer third of my mobile lid. I blended it towards my inner corner, covering the whole eyelid and creating a slight gradient effect.
I added a dab of lighter brown on the centre of the lid, just to give the look a little more dimension.
Next, I used my trusty Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner to draw a puppy eye. It's like a cat eye, except the flick curves down instead of up. I used black eyeliner so it would stand out against the dark eyeshadow.
I topped it off with a reddish-brown mascara (if you look closely at pictures of CJ, you can see that his eyes have a lighter, pinkish ring around them).
The end result is totally wearable and a lot less eccentric than you'd expect for makeup inspired by a show dog.
