My poor, poor lips have been so chapped lately, and it's made wearing lipstick kind of a nightmare. I'll take the time to exfoliate and moisturize before applying a pretty color and heading out for the night, but my lips start feeling and looking dry, and I end up wiping it all off within the hour.
I've been sticking with tinted oils and glosses — or straight-up medicinal lip balm — but sometimes a girl wants more than a sheer wash of color or transparent sheen. Though I'm still on the prowl, I am all about Ciaté London Pretty Stix Lipstick.
They're a melty, ultra-moisturizing, color-packed lipstick-meets-buttery balm and they have brought my lips some much-needed relief. Each contains amino acids and Brazilian murumuru butter to provide intense moisture, all while delivering potent color payoff. The murumuru butter is a new ingredient to me, but after a little research I discovered it's made from the fruit of an Amazon Rainforest palm tree and is heralded for its ability to soothe dry skin.
The balms have a nice slip to them as they glide across your lips, and even after they've worn off or are removed, you can tell that they did some reparative work. The darker colors (especially the reds and purples) are kind of tricky to apply out of the tube, so I recommend using a lip brush for a cleaner finish, but I found that the lighter colors don't need as deft a hand or even a mirror, really, making them a great option for on-the-go color.
