I’m not a very stereotypical Canadian in a lot of ways, but I go above and beyond when it comes to my love of maple syrup. Part of growing up in Toronto involved school trips to tap maple trees and make syrup in big vats in old wooden cabins. We let it cool in the fresh snow and ate nature’s sweet candy with our hands.
Super Canadian, eh?
My love for all things maple certainly hasn’t faded over the years. I think my boyfriend/roommate/family can attest to that. I’m not shy when it comes to substituting plain old sugar for a nice dose of the sweet stuff in my coffee... or dumping maple syrup on my eggs in the morning... or eating maple-style beans (even my British friends were confused by this).
I find it strange to have breakfast and not want to douse everything in such sweet, sugary goodness. I had an obsession with drenching my extra-crispy bacon as a kid with enough maple syrup for my dad to comment on it. And in the decade or so since ditching meat, all I have to say is THANK GOD FOR MAPLE TEMPEH.
Anyway, back to the real story. BITE Beauty has released a maple collection exclusively in Canada (sorry, America!) available for a limited time through Sephora. Naturally, BITE has hit the mark. With names like Braised Maple, Mulled Maple and Candied Maple, I was practically drooling at my computer screen when I discovered this glorious collection.
I got to test out two of the beautiful shades, along with the Maple Agave Lip Mask, and as you can imagine, it went over pretty well.
You know how you imagine this to smell? It smells better. Infused with maple syrup, agave, and vanilla, this is a must-have for any sugar addict.
At first I was taken aback by how thick this stuff was. Getting it out of the tube is a bit of a struggle, but once it warms up (during application) a little goes a long way.
This mask is great for applying before bed, you know, if waking up to seriously soft lips is something you’re into.
Maple Matte Crème Lipstick in Braised Maple
A burnt/brick red, it's perfect for fall. Orange undertones, but still a very deep, bold red. I’m definitely keeping this in my fall rotation!
Maple Matte Crème Lipstick in Warmed Maple
Are you still clinging to summer like I am? You might want to invest in this fall-appropriate orange. It’s the lightest shade of the bunch, and also the easiest to tidy up sans mirror. You know, just in case you need a touch-up between pumpkin-spice everything.
Actually, that brings me to my next point. You probably won’t even NEED to worry about reapplying, because these lipsticks have some serious staying power.
Being a matte creme means they aren’t as drying as traditional matte lipsticks, but aren’t exactly shiny/sheer either. I had to get used to having a creamy lipstick on, but the fact that they have such great staying power means I’ll be wearing them again and again. The reason I always reach for matte lipsticks is because they stay so well, but these have the staying power of a matte while still being totally creamy (and non-drying).
If you’re in Canada (or have a Canadian friend), and have a serious addiction to all things maple, I definitely suggest picking one or two of these beautiful shades up. The mask is a nice little add-on, too.
- Do you have any maple-scented beauty products? What are they because I NEED THEM.
- Are you a fan of BITE Beauty lipsticks?
- Someone tell me they also love maple beans because HOW CAN YOU NOT?
