Biking to work every day means that I have to take the weather seriously. Very seriously. I check the hourly forecast three times before I leave my apartment. My outfit is tested for hot/cold/weather-proofness by taking out the trash every morning. When Tom Skilling says jump, I ask how high.
This is all to say that my momma didn't raise no fool; when I woke up the other day to EPIC SHEETS OF RAIN, I knew to reach for water-resistant eye makeup. But after one too many mornings doing the same old mascara routine, I decided to switch it up. Inspiration? The reverse cat eye: waterproof edition.
You begin with your face! Even though this is an eye look, you can't ignore your face.
I start by applying primer. I've been digging Benefit "That Gal" Brightening Face Primer lately. There's no eyelid makeup for this look, so applying primer makes you feel like you're doing something extra, and That Gal makes your face smell amazing, and I'm all about that. If you want additional coverage (concealer, foundation), now is the time to do that part, too.
Next, I curl my lashes, and smudge Sephora Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner in Matte Charcoal on and under my bottom lash line. This liner is soft and malleable, and the spongy end means no fuss, no muss. Extend that line as far as the day is long.
Then, layer on a thinner, sharper line with navy eyeliner. Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in Neptune is good for this because, duh, it's always sharp. Also line your waterline because the dark-navy-to-gray gradient adds depth, and your eye makeup is really deep.
Then, grab the sparkliest silver liner you own--I like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Cuff (waterproof!)--and fill in the inner corner of your eyes like you mean it.
I have these never-addressed-by-magazines hybrid eyelids that are mono lid in the inner corners and double-lidded from the middle on outward, so I gently pull on the side of my nose to stretch the skin to fill my inner eye. Then I let go to assess and add more sparkle if necessary.
I finished with the most waterproof mascara known to this bike chick, Maybelline Volum' Express the Falsies Waterproof Mascara in Very Black, on my bottom lashes. Y'all mayn't have this problem, but lengthening mascara makes my bottom lashes stick to my eyeballs and then I have to spend a few minutes fishing out black mascara fibers from my eyeball.
And finally: Throw on your most waterproof rain coat to match your waterproof eye makeup, and you are ready to roll. Don’t forget your helmet! Safety is sexy and works for every skin tone.
