Whether you lean pink, purple, or red, one of these is your perfect cooler-weather color.

Wearing berry lipstick in the fall is, admittedly, a cliché, but it’s something I choose to do anyway because berry lip color is pretty freaking flattering and sexy in a my-lips-are-dark-and-appealing-because-I-love-devouring-small-fruits kind of way. And since the shade is open to a lot of interpretation—sometimes it’ s pink, sometimes it’s red, and sometimes it’s really dark and vampy—it’s difficult to NOT find one you’ll fall in love with.

To get you all in the spirit of berry lipstick season, I’ve rounded up 10 lipsticks I’m loving at a range of price points.

Purple Berries

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Fanny

Yes, this satin magenta lipstick is pricey at $32, but I think the fact that it’s low-maintenance makes it worth the splurge. Not only does it glide on easily, going over dry areas in the process, it also lasts long (about four hours on me) and lightly hydrates. Best of all, once you apply it, you don’t have to keep worrying about touching up because it fades into a pretty, even stain as the day goes by.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Berry Rose

When they say "moisture renew" on the package, they really mean it. If you suffer from dry lips in the colder months, this lipstick is the closest you’ll probably get to slathering lotion on your lips. That’s how creamy and smoothing it is.

As for the shade, it’s a deep purple berry with a silver sheen, so it has some strong '90s raver vibes you’ll appreciate on your nights out.

Urban Decay Matte Lipstick in After Dark

I love this matte, highly pigmented deep purple lipstick with a hint of pink, because it makes a statement without being extremely dark or bright.

Although matte lipsticks are notorious for being uncomfortable, this actually feels nice, lasts long and goes on easily. However, even though it did not make my dry lips situation worse, I still had to exfoliate to prevent the lip color from clinging to existing dry areas.

NYX Matte Lipstick in Aria

This lipstick looks straight up purple in the tube, so it’s a little intimidating, but it’s actually a pretty, more wearable purple-magenta once applied. (Yes, the magenta part makes a difference.) It’s also pigmented and stays put on my lips for several hours.

Despite its no-budge formula, it doesn’t leave my lips feeling dry. Compared to After Dark, this is a touch lighter and darker, but both could easily be color dupes in my opinion.

Pink Berries

Shiseido Perfect Rouge in Ballet

Of all lip colors I tested out, this one was one of the most hydrating and most forgiving in terms of hiding the dry areas on my lips. In just one swipe, this soft raspberry lipstick coated my lips in even, shiny color, and when it finally faded in a few hours, my lips felt noticeably softer. I see myself using this very often because the feminine color makes it easy to pair with other makeup.

Another budget-friendly option that looks and feels more expensive than it actually is: this creamy, subdued, deep pinkish-plum lipstick, which is very pretty for everyday wear. Formula-wise, it was very impressive since it was opaque in one swipe and very hydrating. Another bonus: the blue tones in this lipstick help brighten up the skin.

Revlon HD Lipstick in Petunia

I instantly recall memories of my Bonnebell Lip Smackers collection in elementary school when I apply this bright rapsberry lipstick. In addition to having a sweet scent, it’s also light and moisturizing, like a lip balm, while also being packing a lot of color intensity.

Red Berries

MAC Lipstick in Media

At a glance, this doesn’t look like your typical pink- or purple-toned berry lipstick, but that’s because it’s sooo much better than that—if you’re a fan of bold lip colors like me.

A swipe of this satin lipstick yields a beautifully rich plummy-red stain that coats the lips entirely in a couple of strokes. It does have a vampy vibe to it, but I think the satin finish—as opposed to matte—really saves it from looking too goth.

Chanel Rouge Coco in Etienne

Who says berry lipsticks have to be bold? This lip color initially goes on a bit sheer but builds into a more opaque, dark, shiny cherry red. It also boasts a luxuriously moisturizing formula that treats dry lips, making it, in my opinion, totally worth the extra bucks. I would easily swap it in for a bright red when I want a toned down look.

Milani Lipstick in Brandy Berry

For a wallet-friendly vampy option, I like this plummy-red lipstick by Milani, which is the cheapest of the lot at $5.99 and is lighter and redder than Media. For something so affordable, it has beautiful color payoff, has a great moisturizing formula, and it makes me feel glamorous when I wear it.
