Anastasia Beverly Hills has been killing the makeup game lately. Over the years they've been consistently expanding their line with quality eyeshadows, liners, concealers, lipsticks, and now with my new favorite highlighting palette: the Moonchild Glow Kit.
You get six unique pastel colors for just $40, which I think is beyond amazing since my go-to highlighters are about $40 for just one shade.
Not only are the colors in this palette unusual in the best way, it was also inspired by one of my favorite movies of all time, The NeverEnding Story. More specifically, it was named after the Childlike Empress in The NeverEnding Story and the name she's given at the end of the movie, Moonchild. That just made me want it even more. Way to suck me in, nostalgia!
I always wanted to be the Childlike Empress, so I guess if I can't actually be her at least now I can glow like her.
At first glance you might think it's just another highlight palette. There's so many out there now — what's so great about this one? Well, when you see them reflect in the light you'll see that they're absolutely stunning and undeniably different. I definitely didn't have anything quite like these yet.
The Moonchild Palette consists of metallic shine highlighters and four "Reflecks" highlighters. That means that the pearl finish has a top tone with a reflective tone underneath. So when you move the palette, you can see the different colors that reflect.
It's pretty freakin' cool.
The texture of the highlighters is similar to Anastasia shadows. It has the same smooth feel going on, and they blend out really well. They also don't have chunks of glitter like some other highlighters have. These give off more of a multidimensional, ethereal glow.
The color payoff is also great because it's buildable. You can use it for just a subtle highlight if you want, or an ultra-dramatic highlight. It's all in how you apply it. Using it dry with a fluffy brush is going to give you a soft highlight, and a denser wet brush is going to give you the most intense highlight.
I live for a bold highlight, so I decided to spritz some MAC Fix+ lightly on my cheekbones and brush before I dipped into the highlight to give me an intense payoff. I used my MAC 109 contour brush and applied Blue Ice and Pink Heart on top of my cheekbones and blended it out up above my brow using little circular motions.
Another great thing about this palette is that you can use it as eyeshadow as well. For this look I decided to use Blue Ice as my base, Purple Horseshoe in the crease, and Lucky Clover under my brow and in my inner corner as a highlight. I also added Buon Fresco in the crease from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette, and Bombshell from the Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette in the outer corners/under my lower lash line for more definition.
To finish it off I decided to add a winged liner with my Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Intense Black with MAC Definedly Black Pro Longwear Eye Liner in my waterline. I also added Nubounsom false lashes.
The Lucky Clover shade is actually a lot more wearable than I anticipated, which just makes me love this palette even more. I can honestly say that I didn't have anything quite like this yet, and I know I will use every single shade in this palette.
