Like many of you, I'm packing up for a long weekend away this July 4th (get at me, Chicago!). So there's no time like the present to spill the contents of my travel beauty bag for you guys.
My most recent jaunt was a trip to Seattle to celebrate my anniversary. My guy and I like to travel light--each flying with just a backpack for the five-day trip--but I still managed to carry all of my essentials onboard. Here’s what brought for my skin and body.
Because I only travel with a carry-on, I packed a mini Lafes crystal deodorant stick. It's not a liquid or gel, so it leaves extra room in my one-quart baggie for more important beauty-related goo. The trick to making it work is to dampen it a bit and rub it on each pit until it dries--about a dozen strokes..
I also decant some of my favorite Thayer’s Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner into a mini spray bottle. I mist it on daily before applying moisturizer, but I am extra grateful to have it by my side in a dry airplane cabin.
I brought along the Caudalie Polyphenol C15 eye cream that I’m testing out, which quelled my jet lag eyes nicely. For SPF I just used a mini moisturizer by Jack Black that I stole from my husband. It goes on silky and has a lovely matte finish.
I can never be without my favorite cleanser, Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, and moisturizer, Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil, both of which are sold in travel-size at Sephora. And finally, I transferred a little Garden of Wisdom 10% Mandelic Acid Serum into a one ounce amber bottle so I could get my exfoliation on while away.
During a layover in the Minneapolis airport, I popped into The Body Shop and picked up some Moringa Body Butter and a Born Lippy lip balm in Watermelon. I loved the sweet, floral scent and non-greasy texture of the body butter. The lip balm reminded me of a watermelon Lip Smacker, but it was super hydrating.
Wondering why I haven't mentioned shampoo and conditioner? My regular hair products don’t come in travel-size, so I straight-up forgot about them. Luckily, I found some awesome stand-ins at my hotel, the Ace, where showers are stocked with these beauties.
The minimalist hair and body products, labeled by number in case you forget how to wash yourself, are from the hotel’s downstairs neighbor, Rudy’s Barbershop. All three products are gentle, dye-free, and have a fresh, herbal scent. I was surprised how soft and shiny my hair was after using the shampoo and conditioner--until I did some Googling and found out they were formulated by Davines.
After I get all fresh and clean, it’s time for makeup, which I never spend more than two minutes applying when I'm traveling.
At minimum, I wear Nars Bali eyeshadow to fill in my brows, a smudging of Tarte Skinny SmolderEYES liner on the outer third of my upper lash line, and a few coats of Maybelline Full N Soft mascara.
On my cheeks, I wear my favorite nude-pink blush, Nars Doucer, and for my lips I swipe on Nars lipstick in Niagara or Dolce Vita, my two favorite colors.
What do you pack in your makeup case for a long weekend? Headed somewhere fun for the Fourth?
