I just love summer picnics. I mean, other than the creepy crawlies, pigeons, and unleashed dogs stealing your snacks, kicking back on a blanket and enjoying some refreshments is a wonderful way to spend a summer day.
I like to picnic in the park with a basket full of tiny snacks, bottled sodas, and cookies. Sometimes, if I don't have time to go out out, I even picnic in my backyard. Either way, I don't leave the house without a few beauty essentials, especially bug repellant and SPF. These are some of the products I take with me on a picnic, and some that get me in the mood for a picnic.
Fresh Life EDP
No picnic is complete without white wine or Champagne, and that’s exactly what I think of when I smell Fresh Life. A bright, citric blend of grapefruit, cucumber, morning dew, lilac leaf, cypress, bergamot, magnolia, orange, moss, and vanilla grass (whatever that is), this fragrance is so fresh it practically sparkles.
Beauty Counter Peppermint Lip Conditioner
Don't be that girl at the picnic with dry, sandwich-crumb-covered lips. Keep your sandwich on your sandwich and bring a good lip balm. Right now I’m swooning over Beauty Counter’s all-natural, cruelty-free peppermint lip conditioner. Infused with three different kinds of regenerative oils, shea butter, and peppermint and rosemary leaf, it has a zingy scent and slight tingling effect.
Ilia Lipstick in Perfect Day
I'm always reminded of Lou Reed’s "Perfect Day" when I'm out picnicking in the park. When I saw this limited edition Ilia color’s name, I knew I had to have it. A subtle coral red with a shiny finish, it's perfect for sunny days spent on plaid blankets with people you love.
RGB Nail Lacquer in Coral
This color reminds me of a summertime picnic staple--strawberries. It's described as coral, but it's really a true orange-red. Now I'm not usually a big fan of red (I mean, it’s not very pastel), but I love this lacquer. It's also cruelty-free, five-free, and vegan.
Beauty Counter Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen
Expect another post on Beauty Counter sun protection soon. For now, I'll just tell you that I used this face and body duo once daily all throughout Pride Week and came out burn-free (a rare feat). Unlike regular sunscreens, this formula hydrates, soothes, and protects with ingredients like aloe and green tea.
Ban.do Twist Scarf
Ban.do hair twists have really helped cut down on my bad hair days. I pretty much bring one with me everywhere I go. You can use it as a headband or hair-tie in myriad ways. Check out this adorable (and useful) post by Bicyclette for inspiration.
Meow Meow Tweet Camper’s Kit
I burned through my sample sizes of Meow Meow Tweet Herbal Insect Repellant and Herbal Insect Repellant Soy Candle (hence the lack of pictures), but they were wonderful while they lasted. It's surprising how well the all-natural, handmade formula works at keeping bugs away--sans chemical death scent. If you do happen to get bitten, they also make a relief balm that's super calming on itchy bug bites.
Have you been on a picnic yet this summer? What do you put in your picnic basket?
