During the holidays, however, I go into full-on experimental mode, because there’s no better time to wear an intense black smoky eye than during a festive dinner with my wholesome family, am I right? For Christmas, I’m planning to temporarily ditch my usual red lips/gold eye shadow combination in favor of this green smoky eye/plum lip look.
When paired together, green eye makeup and plum lips are a statement-making breath of fresh air. Here's how to get the look.
STEP 1: Apply green shadow to your mobile lid, stopping at the outer third. Extend the shadow ever-so-slightly past your crease. I used the green shade from the Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Vinyl.
STEP 2: Brush on a matte, medium-brown shade to fill the outer third of your lid and let it overlap the green a bit. Keep a rounded shape on the outer third. I worked with Faint from the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette.
STEP 3: Add some black shadow to define the outer third of your lid and up the drama, but don’t cover the brown shadow completely. Blend the black into the crease as well. The black shade used here is also from the Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Vinyl.
STEP 4: Use a matte, flesh-colored shade to define/clean up the shape you created with the shadow, and extend the color up to your brow bone. I used W.O.S., also from the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, since it blends in with my skin tone.
STEP 5: Add a shimmery, brownish-teal eye shadow to the lower lash line. I used Ardency Inn MODSTER Manuka Honey Enriched Pigments in Peacock.
STEP 6: Top it all off with dark eyeliner and mascara. I applied Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Dark Brown.
CHEEKS AND LIPS
Since you want the eyes and lips to be the focus of this look, go with a nude blush, which in my case is Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Exposed. This nude pink blush adds a hint of color that doesn’t compete with the rest of my makeup.
Finish off the look with a plum lip color. A pinky plum is your safest bet, but you can always go deeper or lighter depending on your skin tone (and courage). I am wearing Giorgio Armani Beauty Rouge D’Armani Lipstick in 602 (a pinky plum shade with incredibly long wear) with Shiseido Lacquer Rouge in RD305 layered on top.
