Holiday gift ideas for your friend who’s clean of heart and clean of hands.

The term “germaphobe” gets thrown around a lot these days, what with the hand sanitizer revolution and much of the general public’s bad manners on public transportation.

True germaphobes, I can imagine, probably have a really difficult time getting through the day, but germaphobe lites, like me, just enjoy taking the extra step of being cleaner than average. For example, I won’t go to bed without taking a shower (to wash away all of the days germs), and I use my elbow to touch faucets and light switches, but I haven’t cleaned my room in a week and I look like a shopping bag hoarder. I pick my clean moments.

Whether you have a true germaphobe or a germaphobe lite on your list, I've rounded up a few gift ideas that’ll delight them and possibly ease their anxiety when they have to interact with the unwashed masses.

Sephora Collection Pure Luxury Antibacterial Brush Set, $60

The brushes in this set, which includes a range of soft face and eye makeup brushes, are coated with an antibacterial that kills harmful bacteria so brushes can stay as clean as possible in between makeup applications. It also comes with a chic carrying case, which makes it perfect for travel. Germaphobes will probably still wash these brushes regularly and use a cleansing spray just in case, because, you know...germs.

Violight Zapi Luxe UV Toothbrush Sanitizer, $39.95

Anyone who shares a bathroom will love this tooth brush sanitizer, but your germaphobic friend will probably appreciate it the most, since she’s probably more aware of those toilet germs bursting into the air with every flush than the average person. This product will zap those germs, including H1N1, E. Coli, Staph, and Listeria, dead in six minutes, pre- or post-tooth-brushing-time. BONUS: it makes a cute tooth brush holder.

Jardin Des Plantes Soap Set by Ruan Hoffmann, $18

Germaphobes wash up a lot, so good soap is a must. This adorably decorated set features three festive scents--Holly Berry (ripe berries and currants with some vanilla mixed in there), Holiday Spice (a refreshing mix of cinnamon and citrus) and Winter Pine (pine, cedar wood and mountain air). All of them boast the luxurious Mistral formula, my personal soap brand fave, producing a creamy lather that won’t dry out the skin.

Pacifica Hand Cream Trio, $18

With all that hand-washing, your clean-obsessed friend likely suffers from dry hands during the winter. (Guilty! I’ve scared many strangers with my dry, cracked hands one winter during college.) I like this Pacifica Hand Cream Trio, with Tuscan Blood Orange, Malibu Lemon Blossom, and Tahitian Gardenia scents, since it’s full of soothing and nourishing ingredients like aloe, glycerin, and shea butter. The cute graphic design on the containers doesn’t hurt, either.

Conair Travel Smart Pink Heart Hanging Purse Hook, $6.99

Chances are, your germaphobe friend never places her purse on the floor, instead choosing to hang her purse on the back of her chair--but sometimes that’s not option. As a stocking stuffer, you can get her this purse hook, which extends up to three inches and can balance a purse weighing up to 10 lbs when hanging from a table.

Soap and Glory Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub, $25

A simple lather isn’t enough to feel clean for many germaphobes, so exfoliating is a necessary next step. This scrub buffs away dead skin cells, leaving skin soft, smooth, and smelling good with ingredients such as banana, almond, and honey.
