Washing Your Hair Every Day(ish) Isn't The End Of The World

Sometimes you just have to do the opposite of what everyone tells you to do.

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been working out more often (I’m trying to get really hot, OK?) or if my new bangs make the grease and dirt more obvious, but washing my hair more started to feel like a good idea.

At some point during the past six months, I went from washing my hair one to two times a week to four to five times a week.

Maybe I’ve just been trying to wash that man right out of my hair for the past few months. Good news! It worked!

I know it goes against everything every beauty blog has ever written, but I genuinely believe washing my hair more often has improved its health, as well as my skin and entire life.

Listen, when my hair gets greasy, I feel less hot. My hair is thin and unruly. When it's dirty, it just looks thinner and unrulier.

In a former life, my solution was to load up on products--dry shampoos and texturizing spray to the rescue! But nothing beats clean hair and a fresh blowout for me. (I always do my own blowouts! I hate the way everyone else does it. Sorry.)

As a single lady, feeling hot and fresh is important to my self worth and personal brand.

Bang bang.

Keeping my hair cleaner in general seems to have helped assuage some of the breakouts I tend to get near my hairline and on my back. This is a very “DUH” discovery, but it’s worth mentioning.

Since I’m washing my hair every other day(ish), I switch up my shampoos and conditioners.

My hair seems to behave best when it doesn’t know what’s coming. Scare tactics, y’all.

The posse. My shower is very crowded.

On days when I get particularly sweaty, I shampoo with Pantene Pro-V Aqua Light Clean Rinse Shampoo, focusing on the roots and the crown of my head where grease causes the grossest cowlicks.

I follow up with L’Oreal Color Vibrancy Nourishing Conditioner because it moisturizes like crazy and keeps my highlights looking fly. Also, it comes in a huge bottle and I’m pretty sure it will never run out ever.

Other days, I shampoo with Julien Farel Vitamin Restore Shampoo, which leaves my hair feeling cleansed but moisturized. I usually follow up with the JF Vitamin Restore Conditioner because I love the way these products play together.

If my hair is really dry from heat damage or air conditioning, I’ll use L’Oreal’s Oleo Therapy line of Oil Infused Shampoo and Conditioner, though I use a very small amount of the conditioner because it’s super heavy for my hair.

I still have lazy bouts, but in general I really love the way my hair has been behaving lately so I’m going to keep up the frequent washings.

  • How often do you wash your hair?
  • What products have you been washing with lately?
  • Can you actually wash a man right out of your hair? Discuss.
