I’m not an impulsive person at all. My insane anxiety doesn’t allow for this. Instead, I’m all about staying awake at night contemplating my next haircut a week before the act.
However, when I decided to dump Bubblegum Blue Crazy Color all over my head, I thought, Just do it — it’ll wash out really soon! Unfortunately for me, these dyes are really great at what they do. Not only did the colour latch onto my highlighted caramel hair with no problem, it also doesn’t want to come out.
I’ve tried a few things to get rid of it, but it’s like the unwanted friend that can’t take a hint.
First, I shampooed my hair a lot, which, with dry hair, isn’t what I’d usually do. I also washed it a bunch of times with dandruff shampoo, which left it feeling awful. That helped a bit, but not as much as it's purported to.
I thought about washing it with vitamin C, but last time I did that, it didn’t make too much of a difference. Another popular way of removing colourful dye from your hair is to use dishwashing liquid. Let’s see if it actually works.
The only thing you need to do this is dishwashing liquid of any kind.
All I did was squirt a bunch of dishwashing liquid into my hair and wash as usual; no need to mix it with your usual shampoo. I washed two-and-a-half times (the half time is when I only put a tiny squirt in so that I didn’t wash it a full three times — what did I tell you about my anxiety?) and then decided that I didn’t want to smell like clean dishes, so I washed with my normal shampoo and followed with conditioner.
My hair felt quite dry still, although surprisingly not as bad as the dandruff shampoo made it feel, so I scooped some tried and trusted Kerastase Bain Nutri-Thermique onto it and left it for a good couple of minutes.
A solid pass on this.
It works a tiny bit — I saw some blue going down the drain — but really, it’s not worth the trouble for the effect. I suspect that if I did it a few more times, it could work, but I don’t want to get to that patchy phase that my hair seems to go through with colourful dye. Also, I can’t afford to make my hair feel even worse than it does right now.
