My hair is alright. It's fairly thick, has some semblance of health, and for some reason, I always manage to trick people into thinking it's a lot nicer than it really is. Unbeknownst to the general public, my hair is usually knotted, dry and limp without the proper witchcraft.
But most of the time, I am very lazy. The side pony is my go-to, but sometimes, you just want to have hair like Cheryl Cole's, preferably with minimal effort.
Here's the trick: half-wigs.
A half-wig is a genius invention designed to give your hair volume, length and general polish--especially when time isn't on your side. I got mine from Annabelle's Wigs in the Michela, a gently layered piece with loose curls.
It's made from heat-resistant Flexihair, so when I can be bothered, I can heat style with no problems. There's also a non-Flexihair option that's more affordable, for those of you who want to test the half-wig waters.
And now I'm gonna show you how to put it in!
First, when my hair is bone dry, I dampen it very slightly with some texturizing spray (or plain ol' water) and put them into two buns just to give it a bit of wave.
After a quick blowdryer blast, I add some Frizz Ease to fool everyone into thinking my hair is full of shine and moisture and ends that are not split.
This is what it looks like:
Now here's the magic. The wig is basically inserted in your hair via zig zag headband. The headband goes all around your head, and once in place, it stays. It literally takes less than 5 minutes to put in, and you're set.
Naturally, I'm proving how easy it is wear using my favourite form of communication, animated gif.
There is another comb that goes around the back.
Either tease the hair at the crown to cover the join, or use a headband to cover it--fool-proof!
I use Bumble and Bumble Cityswept Finish to keep everything in place. It's a light-weight spray that adds a bit of shine and makes hair look a bit more lived in.
Are you ready for a transformation?
The difference is subtle enough not to scream '80s pageant queen (although with a few adjustments, very doable), but is enough to garner compliments such as, "Wow, you have really thick hair!"
In case the gif isn't obvious enough, here is the back of my head. Notice all my hair is pushed in front, so the back could use some help.
On my lips is Rimmel Apocalips in Apocalyptic and Kett Hyrdo Blush Tones in Peace on my cheeks. This blush is so lovely--it's got a water-like consistency that's easy to build up and a pretty, natural finish. I dusted some 3CE highlighter in Beige on my cheekbones, chin, bridge and forehead for that Korean-style glossy skin finish.
Though a half-wig isn't my everyday choice, I'm definitely down with the instant glamour. Would you try it?
