I used to be hesitant to do things outside the "norm" with my hair because I was worried it wouldn’t work for me. But the longer I write for xoVain the more inspired I am by other writers, and commenters, to switch up my style.
Just look at these pretty hair color snaps from last week's LOTW:
All over color in a vibrant shade is definitely not a look for the faint of heart, but when done well, it can be gorgeously transformative.
I had tossed around the idea of doing a bright all-over color but the texture of my hair is so fine that I decided it might be too damaging and my draw more attention to areas where my hair has thinned out over time. Also, while I totally love the idea of having a full head of aqua-colored mermaid hair, maintaining that kind of color does not suit my lifestyle.
So I started with a few emerald highlights around the top of my head. Some of you may have noticed the color on last week's LOTW!
The stain rinsed out quite a bit, though, so I decided to go with something more subtle and longer lasting.
What I like about the subtle threading of blue here is that it’s not in your face and it blends in well with the rest of my dark hair. In certain lighting it's barely detectable, but under bright lights it's like a little surprise halo of blue.
As far as maintenance goes, any time I color my hair I try to wash it less frequently, and use color safe shampoo and conditioner when I do. My favorite is Shea Moisture's Moisture Retention line.
I think a case can be made for both the full-on color and the subtle pop. It all depends on how much maintenance you can handle--and how fun you want to get!
- Are you team full-color pop or team sneak-a-peek color?
- Anyone else do anything new with color this week?
