I’ve been going gradually blonder and blonder for about a month now. I could have saved myself a lot of time and money by just plunging right into the peroxide pool, but I’m a baby. So it’s been a process.
Before getting blonded, I was a little nervous. When I wasn’t worried about which celebrity’s hair I look like, I was worrying about damaging my hair.
My hair is naturally a medium brown, but I’d been dying it a dark brown, near-black color up until last fall.
I went into the salon about three months ago asking my stylist to lift the color and add some highlights and bring my hair to a color slightly lighter than my natural brown. Then, at the beginning of January, I sent my stylist a text that read, “Blonde-ify me, Captain” and this whole thing began. I’ve gone back twice so far to have the color touched up and altered.
As a newbie to the blonde game, I was understandably nervous about which products I should be using. I knew I needed something safe for color-treated hair that would also be mega-moisturizing so as to keep my hair away from straw territory. I also knew I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on shampoo or conditioner. With all these salon appointments, I’m already dishing enough money into my hair.
Enter: L’Oreal Paris Advanced Haircare Color Vibrancy Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner.
First of all, each bottle is around $5. Second of all, would Julianne Moore lie to you? Of course she wouldn’t, and neither would I. This stuff is great.
This shampoo does a great job getting all the product and grossness out my hair, which has been a real chore lately as I’ve started doing Jillian Michaels workouts on the regular. (She’s very scary.) It manages to clean my hair without drying it out, which many shampoos, even those claiming to be specially made for my “thirsty” hair, have a tendency to due. It lathers up really easily, which is something I need in a shampoo.
I leave the conditioner on for about five minutes in the shower while I shave my pits or masturbate or whatever, and when I rinse it out, my hair feels smooth and tangle-free like the L’Oreal Kid I was born to be.
When I went back for my most recent color treatment, my stylist told me how healthy my hair looked and how well the color had held on, so you know these products are gold. Getting a compliment on my hair from a hairstylist is my definition of success.
Do you need proof? Look how pretty and soft my hair looks!
My hair actually feels better having been bleached and dyed several times now than it did before, and I’m not making that up. It’s partly because I have more volume now, but also, these products are making me almost as happy as being a blonde is--I really am having more fun.
Have any of y’all tried this shampoo and conditioner? What products do you use on your color-treated hair? Should I just bite the bullet and go platinum?
