Holy moly, does this smells good!

I'm the first to admit that packaging plays a huge role in any of my beauty purchases. Sometimes I'll buy a product specifically because it looks so beautiful, and other times I'll pass on something without a second thought because the design doesn't catch my eye

So when I came upon this perfume oil — with its unassuming amber bottle, unassuming white cap, and unassuming font — I automatically felt pretty meh about it.

I was so wrong, you guys. So wrong.

Even as I unscrewed the cap and mindlessly dragged the roller ball across my wrist, I didn't expect much. But when I actually smelled it? Holy $*%#@!

Cotton Care Canvas Perfume Oil is made by Swedish brand & Other Stories and retails for $29. It's the newest addition to their Cotton Care line, which consists of lotions, soaps, hand creams, shower cream, and body oil.

FYI: There's an & Other Stories store in NYC located at SoHo & 5th Ave.

As you might have suspected from the name, this smells like clean cotton. But I'm not just saying that because that's what the scent is supposed to smell like. It literally smells like freshly laundered cotton, but somehow better. Like you've crawled inside of a warm drier that's been filled with the fluffiest, softest towels you could ever dream up — the kind of fancy-ass, really clean towels that Beyoncé probably uses.

Better yet, you know how when you're walking down the street — let's say it's a crisp, spring day — and you can catch faint wafts of someone's laundry exhaust? It smells like that. Only it's not just anyone's laundry exhaust. It's your mom's laundry exhaust, which makes you feel comforted and calm and like nothing could possibly ever go wrong again.

The simplicity of the bottle is growing on me. And I love that it's travel-size.

Curious, I looked through the ingredient list to see what kind of wizardly concoction they'd used to create such a heavenly, genuine smell. The inclusion of "fragrance" leaves most of the scent a mystery, so yeah... I don't know how they do it.

Like any perfume oil, Cotton Care is strongest when you first apply it. However, even after it dries down and melts into your skin, the integrity of the scent's layers remain. At the end of the day, I can still smell it on my skin when I bring my wrist up to my nose, and I catch light whiffs of it throughout the day.

It's impossible to do justice to a fragrance with just words, but I hope that I convinced you that this stuff is legit. And at the very least, I hope that I reminded you that judging a product by its packaging can sometimes steer you wrong.
